Q1 What is the difference between Tracking and Four Wheel Alignment? Tracking is an across the axle check of total toe. With the tracking gauges touching the edge of the wheel rim the operator peers through a 'scope' or views a light/laser beam on a scale. With no allowance for run out compensation the reading taken will at best be approximate. So for tracking - we have one angle measured approximately. Four Wheel Computer Alignment will give a minimum of 12 angles measured, all referenced to the car wheel centreline and displaying these alignment angles and comparing them to the factory alignment data. Allowance is made for wheel rim run-out. We have accurate repeatable reading that will allow the full picture of how the vehicle drives and whether undue tyre wear will occur. Adjustment would involve the steering wheel being set straight and adjusting the individual toe to maintain a straight steering wheel while the car is driven.
Q2 My tyres are wearing a little on the inside edge and my steering wheel is not The first way forward on any car is to capture the current measurements for all the alignment angles - this will then give the complete answer and lead to the necessary diagnosis and subsequent adjustments. However as a general rule excessive toe-out will lead to premature inside edge wear - this will generally show on both tyres on that axle. The steering wheel not being straight is most likely caused by more adjustment having been made on one track rod than the other - This 'fault' is common when tracking alone has been done.
Q3 How much can I expect to pay for a Four Wheel Alignment? The general rule of thumb is that the total cost of a four wheel measurement and adjustment will be similar to the cost of a tyre for the car in question. Clearly a performance car or one with many more adjustments becomes more involved and takes longer. Q4 Will my problem always be solved? The vast majority of steering problems are solved, but not always. Cars have wheel alignment difficulties through being both out of adjustment (correctable) or by having bent components or even the car body/sub frame to which they bolt being bent. How many new parts are needed? Does the car need to visit a body shop? If your car does not drive correctly after it has been aligned it may have a mechanical fault which we should be able to diagnose for you, we give a warranty with all alignments. Q5 Does having worn tyres mean that the car can be aligned - or do I need New or old tyre fitted will make little difference to the alignment readings. Q6 Will the alignment shop always have the alignment data for my car? Generally speaking yes we would, there are enormous amounts of factory issued alignment data available to the Hawkeye user. On occasions very new vehicles - or some imports, may need the data obtaining specifically for that car. This is very unusual and should not be a problem. We have Web Specs that allows missing data to be found straight away, on line. Q7 How often do I need my wheels aligning? Having a four wheel alignment check should be part of any responsible motorists servicing procedure. Have your vehicle checked annually or every 15,000 miles. Sooner if you hit a pot hole or a kerb! Excellent Service. I have used this company for a few years and can’t fault their service. They have recently upgraded their alignment equipment to the latest Hunter. This equipment is the best quality in the industry. The technicians are very highly trained and work towards giving the best possible results. I have no problems with them working on my car which is my pride and joy and needs to be in top condition for me to be happy with it. All of this at a very reasonable price. Very highly recommended.
Dean. Recently visited Addison Tyres with my 2010 BMW 318. The vehicle had a wheel alignment problem which the local dealership couldnt sort. I also took the vehicle to another tyre dealer and they couldnt fix it either. I spoke to Jason who informed me he had the latest equipment which should sort out the problem. After only 30 mins on the machine, the fault was found and rectified and I'm pleased to say the car drives as it should. I would recommend anybody to give Addison a go. Thanks guys.
I visited Addison Tyres this week, as they had been highly recommended by a colleague, and Addisons didn't disappoint. Two of my tyres have been wearing on the inside of the tyres, and I have had them replaced several times. But it was the expertise of the staff at Addisons, that not only replaced my tyres, with harder wearing tyres at less that I had paid before, but they also corrected my wheel alignment, with their state of the art alignment system, to ensure my tyres would last longer in the future. Thank you Addisons.
Matt W. 2 new tyres fitted and free alignment check. Great customer service, got me to buy the most suitable rather than most expensive tyres. highly recommended.
